TerpSummit 2021: Fit for the Future

Your comprehensive toolkit for building a successful, lasting interpreting career

11th-13th January 2021

Being a conference interpreter isn't all exciting, high level assignments, glamorous foreign travel, and making a difference in the world.

Especially not at the moment, when there's very little foreign travel, and conference interpreters are scrambling to adapt to changing circumstances, travel restrictions, new technologies, RSI, and more.

You're working hard to stay on top of the changing landscape and new technology, but you feel you could be doing more to futureproof your career.

What you really want is to...

Get clarity about your USP and career goals in the current shifting landscape

Keep improving your skills to be more professional and marketable

Learn simple tools to stay mentally and physically strong for your whole career

Position your business to stand out and make the income you deserve

You can have all these things without spending hours on research or constantly adding more to your plate.

Learn from the experts, get action tips, and start putting proven strategies into action straight away.

The Fit for the Future Summit is about just that: laying the foundations for a successful, lasting career with a done-for-you comprehensive toolkit of tried-and-tested resources.

30+ experts over 3 days will teach you strategies you can use to clarify your goals, improve your skills and business, and start implementing the habits that will give you career longevity, no matter whether you're a beginner or a seasoned interpreter.

Meet Your Host

Hi! I'm Sophie Llewellyn Smith (aka The Interpreting Coach), a conference interpreter and trainer with a passion for helping fellow interpreters create good habits and continue developing their skills with clarity and purpose. With 20 years' experience as an interpreter trainer and a background in personal fitness coaching and complementary therapies, I have a holistic approach to skills development.

I've created this summit to help you examine your interpreting business in the round, from how you look after your main asset (you!) to how you present yourself to the outside world, with a view to becoming more confident, skilled, and marketable.

The Details

When

TerpSummit 2021 will run from Monday 11th to Wednesday 13th January 2021, with a variety of presentations to choose from each day.

Where

No surprises here: you can tune into the summit from the comfort of your home office. Or your living room sofa - pyjamas optional!

Presentations

Interpreters love to speak and interact live, so most of the speakers are very keen to hold live workshops, Q&As, taster sessions etc.

Where there are actual presentations, they will mostly be 20-30 minutes long. Nice and short so you can get the information you need, and take action quickly! The presentations will be available for 24 hours afterwards to encourage you to stop waiting for the right time and take action, along with hundreds of other interpreters.

Community

Not everyone loves Facebook, I know, but it has its uses - especially as I'm already in touch with many of you through my Facebook pages.

You'll have access to a private pop-up group just for summit attendees, where we'll be partying before the summit starts, and talking about useful takeaways once it kicks off.

Keep an eye out in the Facebook group for short challenges, games, an introduction to the speakers, and more.

Prizes

We'll be holding a prize draw for people who purchase the Interpreters' Toolkit for Success.

Our speakers have generously contributed some amazing prizes, including 1-1 strategy sessions, books, 2 years' free membership of a glossary tool, and more. The draw will take place on the last day of the summit.

Look out for giveaways in the Facebook group, where you can play bingo for prizes: virtual, edible, or physical!

Looking for on demand access to the materials?

After registering, you can also upgrade to gain access to the Interpreters' Toolkit for Success.

That means you'll have on demand access to presentations and worksheets, mp3 files so you can listen to the replays on the go, premium bonuses from our speakers, and special English retour diagnostic sessions (first come, first served).

You won't want to miss it!

Why should I spend my precious time on yet another online event?

The coronavirus crisis has led to an explosion in webinars, courses, and workshops for interpreters. The quantity of information has been bewildering at times.

So what makes this event different?

First, this summit was created specifically for interpreters, by an interpreter. This isn't general advice for any creative business out there. Every single presentation is specialised for the type of business you run, making it a whole lot more impactful.

Secondly, this isn't an online version of an AGM or a professional organisation's annual conference. You won't hear presentations about the state of the market, trends in interpreting, numbers of interpreter-days, or the future of the profession in general.

Instead, I have carefully selected speakers and curated a series of presentations, workshops, taster sessions and Q&As that focus on YOU, the interpreter - your business's greatest asset! The idea is for you to work on yourself, by learning to look after the tools that are essential to your career (your voice, your ears, your back, your energy levels), and how to keep developing even in difficult circumstances. The overarching aim is to lay the foundations of a lasting and successful career.

Most importantly, I'm not here to add to your plate. My goal isn't to throw a pile of new strategies and tasks at you, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and like there's no way you can do enough. Instead, I'm here to give you simple, practical, actionable steps to make you more confident, more marketable, more professional, and more resilient.

Join me for TerpSummit 2021: Fit for the Future!

This is the very first TerpSummit, so I can't share testimonials yet.

But here's what some of my own clients have had to say.

I really enjoyed every session I had with Sophie. They always were engaging, lively and really useful.
I have been working on adding an English B, and I felt like I needed someone else than my (otherwise awesome) practicing buddies to really up my game. We simply tend to lack in skills to pinpoint precisely what are the major recurring mistakes / how to improve on them. Sophie has all the tools we need to help us there. She flagged what I specifically needed to work on, besides the usual “French mistakes”, and gave me exercises to improve. Plus having a regular one-to-one coaching session helps to be organized and really pushed me to practice more efficiently between sessions.
All in all, even though this is a somewhat expensive investment, that is precisely what it is. An investment in my career and I find it absolutely worth it!

Lenaig T., freelance interpreter

Sophie offered lots of practical tips and a very insightful analysis of the situations that can lead to stress in an interpreting environment. Her webinar included a string of very useful and easily applicable ways in which we can overcome stressful situations, both in the booth as well as in life. The webinar was KISS technique based. Right to the point all the time and always ready to take any questions from participants.

It is very clear that she knows what she is talking about in all the topics she covers (eating and sleep habits, exams, assignments, how can an interpreter feel).

I wish I had attended this webinar at the beginning of my career. Sophie’s webinar is a source of inspiration and a very positive way of finding encouragement to improve performance at work and satisfaction with oneself. I definitely recommend this webinar to everyone, and not only to interpreters, as many things can be applied to all sectors and life in general.
